We raise full-blood Yak and crosses which we use for meat. The 'crossed' animals which we butcher are now all over 50% yak, so they are at least 3/4ths Yak. Even the 1/2 Yak are very comparable to the full-blood as far as the advantages of the meat. We have our meat butchered at a federal, USDA inspected plant and sell a lot of it through the High Plains Food Coop which starts collecting the orders in Atwood, KS and ends up in Denver where it is distributed along the front range. All of our available cuts can be viewed at this time on the High Plains Food Coop website. We raise our Yak in northwest KS but our freezers & living quarters are in Trenton, NE. We also sell locally by the piece, and take orders for quarters, halves, or the whole animal butchered or live on the hoof. We also sell breeding animals to raise your own. Our Yak are NOT feed lot finished or even come near one. They are grass-fed finished, given no hormones, injections, additives, or such. We often refer to the meat as 'Tibetan Beef'. They are generally quiet and good natured animals. Some will even come up for a nose rub. At this time we are unable to 'ship' our frozen meat but if there are connections that can be made, we will certainly accommodate that. Our son currently lives in Bellevue, so that is one possibility for those not able to come to the Trenton / McCook area!
