Our philosophy is multifaceted. We want to do what's best for families - provide top quality beef direct to customers, no antibiotics, no growth hormones, no grain fed; we want to do what's best for the cattle - provide the least stressful environment for their lifespan; we want to do what is best for the land - provide the most natural way to fertilize, maintain healthy pasture, and use the least invasive methods to manage our farm. In order to achieve those purposes this is our belief system: To provide the most top quality beef we cross angus, red angus and mixed beef cattle with a gelbeiv bull. Angus stock is well known as a great producer of delicious beef, and gelbiev has a quiet temperament and are notorious for being a more lean type of beef. What is best for the cattle is making sure that they live the least stressful life possible. We drive four wheelers, tractors, and walk into the pasture on a daily basis year round, stop and talk to them, get them used to humans in close quarters. We do not vaccinate or medicate unless one is sick, and we do not under any circumstances use growth hormones. We don't even feed grain, just hay grown and harvested by us on our own farm. Our calves stay with the herd until they are weighed so there is no stressful weaning process; this ensures that the beef you receive is the most natural you can get. What is best for the land is to run our operation as closely to what Mother Nature intended. We use an extensive grazing structure that not only conserves pasture but also equalizes manure distribution, manure being fertilizer, so we don't need to use chemical fertilizers. Our rotation plan also minimizes pests (flies) by removing the host from the pasture before the larvae hatch from the manure. Another benefit from moving the cattle so frequently is that they once again get used to human involvement so they are more used to human involvement making them calmer and less stressed any time they are handled. Yet another benefit to this process is that we have to put up less hay to maintain the herd, thereby reducing the ecological impact of fuel emissions. In short, we run our farm as nature intended so you don't have to worry about what you are feeding your family, and you can ask any of our customers, they are thrilled with the taste, texture and quality of our beef product. We believe that our farm is a wonderful way to run a cattle operation. We love and take good care of our herd, and in the process provide you with the best, least invasive and most healthy beef possible. Welcome to Jenkinsfarm! We KNOW you will love our beef!
