Gozzard City is a small goose farm in Cabot, Vermont. We share acreage and resources with a handful of other businesses on the same property, including a vegetable farm and a catering company with a wood-fired pizza oven.
Our geese are pastured, and are sold to restaurants and to consumers during the holiday season. In 2014, we will raise more than 300 birds, and have been awarded a Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education grant to study the best methods for feeding and fattening geese with ingredients grown on our near our farm.

Why geese? In part, because unlike most birds, they can derive most of their nutrition from grass, clover, and other pasture plants. Geese can comfortably hang out on damp ground unsuitable for ruminants, and their strong herding instinct helps keep them safe from predators. Plus, goose meat is delicious, their bones make wonderful soup stock, and their fat can be rendered and used for frying potatoes or making confit.
