We are a family operated, clean meat focused, small farm located in Darke County, Ohio. We try to use heritage breeds as we believe that the flavor and tenderness far surpasses that of modern breeds. We utilize Lowline Angus, Lowline Angus/Devon cross cattle, Red Wattle pigs, Freedom Ranger chickens, and Katahdin, Katahdin/Texel sheep along with some recently purchased heritage breed Shropshire sheep. Our Cattle are raised fully on pasture. Calves are born on pasture and live their entire lives eating grass in the summer and stockpiled grass and hay in the winter. They are 100% grass fed...they never receive any grain throughout their lives. We use only breeds that are known to finish well on grass. They are finished using rotational grazing methods and the finishing cattle are moved four times per day. That ensures that they are receiving optimal nutrients and that they are gaining weight as needed for proper marbling in the meat. Our pigs are fed Non-GMO grain and are pastured in season as pasture permits. Summer of 2015 we farrowed for the first time. Our sows farrowed on pasture using porta-huts. Red Wattle meat is well known for being flavor-filled and very tender. Pork chops done on the grill are generally fork tender! We started out raising the traditional meat bird for our chicken, Cornish Cross. However, after doing some research we decided to try Freedom Rangers...and were we ever thankful that we did! While it takes Freedom Rangers a couple weeks longer to finish growing, the wait is well worth the taste difference. The meat is tender and delicious. We went from being a family who didn't care for chicken to being a family who LOVES chicken!! Our chickens are fed non-GMO grain and are free range birds. Our eggs are produced by our flock of Black Osterlorp birds. The egg birds reside in our movable chicken house and follow the cattle around the pasture performing optimal fly control. Our Black Osterlorp hens also are fed a diet of Non-GMO grain. They are free range as well and enjoy doing their chicken thing of scratching around in the dirt. We have three breeds of sheep....Katahdin, Texel, and heritage breed Shropshire. Our ewes are Katahdin crossed with a Texel ram for an awesome carcass. The Shropshire sheep were acquired in the fall of 2014, so we have no record of how they will perform. Our lambs are born on pasture in late spring and live out their days frolicking in the grass and sunshine! They are slaughtered in late fall making them roughly six months old. Our sheep/lambs are never fed any grain making them 100% Grass fed! You can purchase our meat at our self serve store located at 7266 New Madison-Coletown Rd. Greenville, OH 45331
