I am going to be just starting to sell shares this fall have I been practicing for a few years first , just to be sure I can deliver the goods growing up in the suburbs of Chicago doesn't prepare you for this no matter how long you been dreaming in a share you will get 50 pounds min. of pasture raised pork 104 chickens that are completely free range 104 dozen eggs and either half a mature fall lamb or a whole spring lamb. The eggs / chicken available produce part of the package will be home delivered in the Sioux Falls area or can be picked up on Saturday afternoons at the farm if you want to visit your groceries The meat part of the share is the guaranteed part of the share (unless I die for some unexpected reason but I'm way too busy for that ) the vegetable part will be rather iffy, I had planted for an abundance since animals would gladly eat any extras but since a flood washed away a huge part of what was planted this year it wont be what I hoped for. But there will definitely be some vegetables available with your chicken and egg delivery and it does run year round so you will get vegetables next year also and if all goes well (all 10 shares sell) the greenhouse will make it year round I tried to make the meat alone worth the cost of the share since it is calculated on what I think is a fair and reasonable price for the product 2.50 for a dozen brown/blue /green eggs and 10 dollars a regular sized chicken for example (My favorite is the monster broiler hens I let go till they have huge 4 pound breasts) I cant beat mega store prices but I try really hard too The pork part of the package will be ready from the locker in late august August 4th I will have an open house where I will roast a whole hog and have samples because part of your meat can be swapped for the delicious Jerky I make and not everyone knows what lamb tastes like for example and the ten shares will be sold at this open house and the new shareholders will get to feast and divide up the roasted hog . with the funds raised from the shares I will be putting up the 35'x84' greenhouse that is sitting here waiting and buy a milk cow if all ten sell.( I make really good Ice cream) in it I will raise fish and vegetables year round it will instantly increase the value of a share once up and running but I cant guarantee anything this year. since I don't know if all the shares will be sold or not every penny will be folded back into farm which will benefit the shareholders which is very limited in number so that all the chickens can stay completely free and all the animals can have good quality of life and I can keep up! all things grown on this farm will be considered part of the CSA share there are cherries, Nanking cherries asparagus, strawberries, apple trees, gooseberries cranberries, raspberries already growing. There also are ducks geese and other good things to eat that that are not a reliable supply so they are not on the guaranteed meat list but they will be divided up as ready. In the long run I want to slowly work up to 20 shareholders maximum the price of a share will increase next year as I want to hire a helper and add milk but the original 10 will have this price locked in for 5 years if they chose for being the ones that will Kick start my greenhouse being put up. I could put it up the fast easy cheap way but have a more extensive plan that will take a lot of cement to make the deep wells for the fish that will aid in temperature control as heat retention basins by the way it will be heated with a wood heated boiler system Very green my house is heated this way and someday electricity will be off grid and green too ! (the price lock will be a thank you for the funding since my husbands former co workers at morrells who have been buying all my chickens and lambs for the last several years while I learn seem to have selective understanding of English when I talked to them about paying ahead in august to get a better deal for a full year of food so I don't think any of them will become shareholders unfortunately, but I have my vision of what I want this to be and just a meat retailer isn't it I hope to see you August 4th at the sign up roast Kathleen beech
