The Port Madison Community Shellfish Farm offers CSA memberships for oysters grown in Port Madison Bay on Bainbridge Island. This is a non-profit farm operated by Puget Sound Restoration Fund, and all proceeds go towards water quality improvement projects around the island.
Becoming a member of the Port Madison Community Shellfish Farm means more than receiving deliveries of oysters; it means becoming involved in helping to create a healthier Puget Sound. Growing shellfish has many environmental benefits including improved water quality, species diversity and eelgrass growth. In fact, a single oyster can filter 20 gallons of water a day. Shellfish can be part of the solution to cleaning up Puget Sound.
The goal is to create a shellfish farm that is widely supported and largely operated by community volunteers. Such involvement fosters a sense of ownership within the community and results in long term, community-driven improvements in water quality while providing a source for locally grown shellfish. Become a member of the Port Madison Community Shellfish Farm and know that you are benefiting yourself as well as the Sound!
