Long awaited classes on simple, edible backyard gardening and/or edible landscaping and/or container gardening (all organic and low maintenance) continue in March at Scotty's Organic Farm in Northern Polk County, north of Lakeland.
Start off the New Year learning how you can save money, help the environment, get healthier, enjoy life to the fullest. Any of those your resolutions?
Scotty's Produce Organic Farmer, Jeff (Scotty) Campbell, will demonstrate exactly how to make compost, build, what and how to plant in raised beds and/or containers, how to feed and protect plants organically. Learn how to start with the basic good soil, what seeds to plant now, where to get them, how to take care of, harvest and eat it! In 6 weeks from now you can begin enjoying the best, healthiest, freshest food started and nurtured by your own loving hands.
Barefoot Gardener, Peg Campbell will show you a sample "perennial, edible landscape garden" in exactly how much space you need for a family of 4 to provide you with an ample variety of produce and herbs from your own average-size backyard (and how to sneak it all into your edible landscape in a deed-restricted community). She will share with you extra tips and secrets to a truly "green thumb" whereby your plants return to you, personally, the love and attention you give to them. And how you can do this on a schedule of 30 minutes a day!
See how little space and time is really needed to feed yourself and your family well.
Bring a notebook, minimal to no handouts, (save a tree and ink). Note-taking not absolutely necessary as all information part of class is or will be available online.
