Lawns To Legumes

Lawns to Legumes operates on a number of residential sites in beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia, and is based on the methods of SPIN Farming. SPIN Farming is a way of farming for maximum efficiency on very small plots of land, unlike a conventional farm which can take up dozens of acres. Homeowners, tired of watering lawns that only turned brown anyway in our hot Okanagan sun, contacted Janice to have these spaces converted to vegetable production. The result is a patchwork farm currently operating on five different properties. We do not use any chemical pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers on our crops. Natural materials such as compost and leaf mulch are used, and a bicycle is employed whenever possible to visit the plots for maintenance, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
