Haw River Mushrooms, LLC is dedicated to bringing the flavors, textures, and stories of culinary mushrooms to a larger audience. We believe that thinking mycologically leads to acting ecologically and that an appreciation for mushrooms opens doors to understanding fungi's many rolls in preserving and restoring our environment. Whether adding magic to the dinner plate or restoring a sense of wonder in our natural world, we hope our brand leaves people with the feeling that mushrooms are delicious, interesting, accessible and fun.
We grow primarily indoors, with a small outdoor growing area for King Stropharia, chicken of the woods, and log grown lions mane, blue oyster, and shiitake. Indoors we specialize in oyster (blue, white, pink, golden) mushrooms, lions mane, and shiitake and also often offer cinnamon caps, black pearls, piopinni, reishi, king trumpet, wine caps and more. Laura is also holds a Wild Mushroom Food Safety Certification, allowing her to sell 19 varieties of seasonal foraged mushrooms.
We sell at several triangle and triad restaurants and five farmers markets - The Durham Farmers Market, The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, Chapel Hill Farmers Market, South Durham Farmers Market and Eno River Farmers Market (Hillsborough). We also offer a mushroom CSA, and welcome over 1,000 visitors to the farm each year via visits and farm tours and our class series on growing mushrooms at home. We provide mushroom sawdust spawn, dowel spawn, and grow your kits to homegrowers and mushroom farmers. We hope we can help you add more mushrooms to your life!
