Stay tuned to the Little Shangrila Facebook page for more details and the official grand opening day. Little Shangrila Sanctuary & Farm is a small work in progress sustainable sanctuary & farm. We overlook a beautiful private lake and are tucked behind a classic southern tree line. Our sanctuary houses all type of animals such as ducks, geese, donkeys, lamb, goat, guinea hens, cats and dogs, and a lake full of fish not to mention our chickens. We are located just outside the hustle and bustle of Birmingham, but just close enough to share our glorious seasonal fruits, veggies, herbs, and of course batches of wonderfully colored eggs straight from, well, our very own backyard. Our chickens are not just simply free range, they are raised from chicks to chickens exercising only their natural instincts to be outside, free to roam, socialize, dust bath, and above all forage. Our chickens forage for more than 75% of their own diet over 3 acres of our land and then protected at night from predators in 9 of our very own custom designed and built tractor coops. Each hen creates their very own special egg that can vary in all sizes. But each hen in fact does have a destined colored egg. This is about the only thing that is predictable, besides their routine. No matter the size egg or color, they all taste equally as delicious in any recipe. Although we are not yet certified our practices reflect the Animal Welfare Approval.
