Olde Reminisce Farms is home to The Historic USA Herd of Kunekune Pigs. ***We sell Breeding Stock and Meat Pigs*** We have recently moved most of the Kunekune herd to Amy's Farm just down the road a piece. We've coined the terms "small batch swinery" to describe our artisan pork operation crafting one hog at a time and "terrior breeding" to describe our method for creating a herd whose efficiency and flavor reflect our specific location in this Southern California region. Our midsized heritage hogs are known for their ability to do well on grass with very little needed in the way of supplementation. Pasture pens with various grasses are replaced with hay rations when the season dictates. Reminiscent of the larger Mangalitsa Pigs of Austria and Hungary, Kunekunes are revered for their fat as much as for their meat. Fat is flavor, of course. While we are not certified organic, we raise all of our pigs outdoors, fed only organic feeds and pasture as available, using the least invasive methods for rearing possible. We feed organic feeds purchased locally at American Farm & Larder. In an effort to support other local businesses and to remain a sustainable farming enterprise, we feed the products locally grown without hormones or pesticides. Apples and acorns from Oak Glen, Angeles Oaks, and other local mountain spots are a great treat for our pigs and add a wonderful dimension to the flavor of their pork. Chefs and restaurant owners are encouraged to learn more about the Kunekune Pig and its use in the traditional artisan craft of charcuterie or to add Kunekune Pork to their special/seasonal menu offerings. We offer weaners/growouts to farms for their own Kunekune pork. Whole hogs, suckling pigs, oven roasters, BBQ pigs, spit hogs...pigs of any size can be purchased for their pork.
