Nightingale Farms is a small farm in the foothills. We are family operated and began by providing fresh meat and eggs to family and friends. In 2005 we started with a flock of free-ranging hens, Free-ranging to our hens means that they go wherever they want. Fortunately, they return to the henhouse to lay and to sleep at night so that we can keep them safe from predators. Our flock now numbers 40 hens of varying breeds. We feed a commercial blend and they eat all the bugs, seeds and sprouts they can find. They have access to all the natural light, food and fresh water they need. They are never crowded, their beaks are not removed and they molt when nature tells them to. We don't cull the older hens because it just doesn't seem like much of a way to say "thank you." An interest in fiber and heritage breeds led to the purchase of two Icelandic ewes. They produced award winning fleeces in 2006 and are due to lamb in April of 2007. We are looking forward to adding to our little flock. Our meat and eggs are available by calling the farm. We can deliver to most central locations or you can make arrangements to pick your items up on the farm.
