The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) promotes diverse, market-driven agricultural enterprises, coupled with land preservation to increase sustainability and profitability of Southern Maryland 's regional agriculture and environmental resources. Programs include" So. Maryland, So Good" connecting Southern Maryland farms to local consumers; the "Buy Local Challenge", which encourages consumers everywhere to eat something every day during the last full week of July; the "Southern Maryland Trails: Earth, Art and Imagination" an award winning guide to everything handmade, home-grown and locally harvested that embodies Southern Maryland's, arts, farms, natural heritage and culture; "Cornelia and the Farm Band" educating children to the benefits of healthy farm food and healthy lifestyles, and "Maryland Farmlink" which connects buyers and sellers of farmland in Maryland, a farmer forum, a person-to-person feauture to connect farmers and future farmers with mentors, apprentices, business partners, etc., and a resource section with tools such as estate planning tips, equipment for rent, etc..
