On our small farm in eastern South Central Pennsylvania we raise purebred Katahdin hair sheep for meat and for breeding stock. Our sheep are raised naturally on pasture and our own hay. We do not need to worm our sheep, because Katahdins are naturally resistant to worms and we also select for sheep that have a high resistance to worms. We rotate them on our numerous pastures which also are intersected with our spring fed brook which is superbly clean and filled with fish, plant life etc. Trout Unlimited has inspected our brook and is planning on doing work here for erosion control, although we planted trees and bushes to provide natural erosion control years ago.
We are inspected by US dept. Of Agriculture, for sale of USDA processed lamb at the farm. Frozen lamb is available year-round, while ewe and ram lambs can be purchased mid summer after weaning.
We also breed and sell Registered Section B Welsh ponies. They are raised on pasture and hay alongside the sheep and provide a natural balance for control of most weeds and also help enormously with worm control. None of our livestock are wormed as the combination of sheep and ponies helps enormously. Ponies are available also.
At other times during the year, we also have available GREAT PYRENEES GUARDIAN dog puppies from our own working dogs. Without our Guardian Pyrenees we would have an extreme problem with predators. These animals are desirable as protectors for livestock including sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, and other types of farm animals.
We also will do farm tours upon request.
