Blackwood Fold was founded in 2013 by Alex and Jennifer Jones in Bells, Texas. We are a family-owned and operated homestead that raises multiple animal species for human consumption in an effort to return to old-fashioned homesteading techniques. Originally 11.5 acres, we are currently homesteading 23 acres. The Blackwood comes from land we own in Scotland and the word "fold" comes from the Old Saxon "faled" meaning an enclosure for domestic animals.
We raise a variety of animals including pigs, poultry, and more. Our goal is to provide our livestock with respect and a humane way of life where the commercial industry has failed them. Most of our animals are pasture raised with the exception of rabbits which we keep secure due to predators. We use local hay, produce, and occasionally our own produce to supplement our livestock and provide them with what they need to thrive. Our animals and eggs are all antibiotic and hormone free when they leave the farm, and are only used when necessary for the animal's well-being.
