Muir Ranch is a 2-acre sustainable urban teaching farm at John Muir High School in Pasadena, California. Muir Ranch employs kids to grow fresh organic vegetables and flowers, sell them through the CSA subscription program and cook in the Muir Ranch Farm Kitchen.
Muir Ranch CSA is a cooperative, or "blended", CSA, which means we gather produce from our school farm, as well as other regional sustainable farms. This type of CSA increases variety for members, and assures that there will be plenty of produce every week throughout the season. By joining, our members support more than one local farm, as well as a farm-based high school educational program that connects the realms of project-based learning, meaningful employment, youth development, local food production, community, and health. Proceeds from the CSA are used to fund paid internships at Muir Ranch year round. Subscriptions to the CSA program are 50% tax-deductible.
Every week, Muir Ranch CSA subscribers receive a box (full share) or bag (half share) of 7-11 different types of fruits and vegetables. Flower shares are also available seasonally. Subscribers retrieve their shares at central distribution sites in Pasadena: Muir Ranch, PUSD headquarters, and City Hall.
