We started with the purchase of the property. With 24 acres of hardwood forest, we had lots of options! Both of us were very interested in having our own farm, and we still are constantly are trying to think of new ways to develop our land. In spring, 2017, we decided to get chickens. We hand-raised the chicks so that they were very used to being handled and comfortable with us. The goal of the chickens was to have farm fresh eggs, and occasional chicks. We also have guinea fowl, a Broad Breasted Turkey, and 2 Pomeranian Saddleback Geese, and may be selling keets and goslings when available. The chickens are great pest control and will eat mice and bugs. The Guineas are great for bug control, and they notify you and the other birds when there's a reason to be cautious. The turkey is beautiful and showy, and the geese have the job of lawnmowers and guard dogs. Have you ever been chased by a goose? They're mean! Then, we had the idea of goats. We both had our favorites, so we got one of each, male and female. Today, we have 10 in our herd, comprised of Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, and Snubian breeds. We sell goat kids when in season, typically 2x a year. We FIRMLY believe in free range feeding and caring for all of our farm animals. In the summer months, the birds are given a small amount of grain in the morning for balanced nutrition, but eat bugs and vegetation for the remainder of the day. We noticed that if we don't offer grain, the birds wander into our neighbors yard in search of new places to hunt. Why did the chicken cross the road? Now you know. The goats are the same. In the summer they are free ranging outside of their pen. In the winter months, we provide 2 different feed options to the chickens for best quality, and same with the goats, plus they receive high quality, second cut hay. We believe that the nutrition that our animals are getting from the variety of food sources is optimum. So, your products that you get from us will be nothing but honest, sustainable food sources fed to our beloved pets.
