All lambs bound for the market are raised with as much care as we devote to the sheep that will stay on the farm. We never feed antibiotics or growth hormones to our lambs.
For those that might be new to lamb meat, please be aware that "lamb" is defined as the meat from any sheep less than one year old. We do not sell little baby lambs. Sheep reach sexual maturity at about four months of age, and we harvest at over double this age, around ten months.
We aim for a target live weight of at least 115 pounds, which yields 40-50 pounds of packaged frozen lamb meat when you buy a whole lamb. Please visit our website for all the details on how to order.
Grass-fed lamb is one of the healthiest meats you can eat, with 40% of the fat being the same "good fat" as olive oil. Grass-fed lamb is one of the approved meats in the doctor-recommended Mediterranean diet.
Our most important goal is to make sure that the lambs are raised humanely and live stress-free lives. Lambs bound for the market have lives that are as full as possible, living with the flock in the pasture instead of being stuck in a feedlot eating corn or pellets.
The basic needs that are often skipped by other lamb producers are most important to us: shelter from inclement weather, shade from the hot sun, clean drinking water, clean bedding to lie on, protection from predators, and as many head scratches as the sheep care to accept.
We follow many organic practices, including rotational grazing and recycling of barn waste as compost. We strive to ensure the health of every flock member and improve the health of our farm with every choice we make.
One of our lamb customers, in describing the complexity of flavors of grass-fed lamb, compared it to tasting a good cup of coffee. Many of us have become used to eating factory-farmed, grain-fed meats that have a bland uniformity of flavor. Locally produced, grass-fed meats are a completely unique culinary experience.
Please contact us for information on reserving a whole or half lamb in the current harvest. Know where your meat comes from and make a safe choice for your family, for your health and the environment!
