The CSA goes from the beginning of June until Mid-October. Each CSA season could be 19 to 20 weeks long, depending on the weather.
Overall, it is hard to say what an average CSA pick-up will look like because it changes so much throughout the season. (It starts out small and increases?peaking in August and then plateau-ing into the fall.) With that said, on average a full share (divide in half for split share amounts) gets about 3/4 of a clear produce bag of greens and lettuce, 1/2 to 3/4 of a white ?thank you? plastic bag (sometimes a full white bag if it is a really good season) of more durable veggies (carrots, beets, peppers, eggplants, squash and cucumbers, cabbage etc), 1/2 to 1 clear plastic bag of cooking greens, and then in the late summer/ early fall there will be the additional 1 to 15 tomatoes, 1 or 2 melons, and 1 or 2 winter squash and maybe some other extras. (These numbers can vary based on the weather and the season.) We distribute the veggies on a mix and match basis, so you can pick and choose what you want. You never have to take it all, whatever is left over goes to the food shelf in Northfield. There are also many u-pick crops that are a part of your CSA share that you can pick throughout the season! Those include strawberries, peas, beans, flowers, herbs, and cherry tomatoes.
If vegetables are a central part of your meals, then a full share will work great for you. If vegetables are more of a side, then a split share might be a great place to start. We certainly have had members start with a split share and then decide to upgrade to a full share in subsequent years.
