Orlean is the quintessential small village situated in the heart of Virginia's Piedmont country with sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The town is located about 15 miles northwest of Warrenton you can find this community hub for fox hunters, bicyclists, motorcyclists, hikers, musicians trail riders and neighbors find common ground at the Orlean Market. The village of Orlean was territorially and culturally associated with the Free State, which was northwest of Warrenton and stretched up to Marshall. It included Orlean, Hume, Asheville, and Markham. Originally this area was owned by Thomas Fairfax, and after his death in 1781, the Marshall family inherited the land. Thomas Fairfax had leased sections of his land out to emigrant families making their way out west, but when the Marshall family took over and tried to collect rent, they were faced with resistance and disobedience. Gaining a reputation for lawlessness, the residents of this area were holding on to their land at all costs. It's believed that the village of Orlean was named after Andrew Jackson's victory in 1815 at the Battle of New Orleans. The Orlean Market, originally established in 1870, served as a community establishment connecting the people of the Free State. The Orlean Store is located at the corner of Routes 688 and 732 in Fauquier County. The market has served the community for many years. Providing asylum from the harsh winter between Warrenton and Marshall or acting as the center for business conducted in the area, the Orlean Market has always provided the community with exactly what it needs. Today, Fauquier County is bountiful in its varieties of local wineries, dispensaries, and local farms which Orlean Market loves supporting. Beyond the sale of food and drinks, one of the more important benefits of the markets rebirth is the installation of functioning gas pumps. The nearest gas station is over five miles away. The current front entrance space is a deli & convenience store. Upstairs you can find a market space that maintains the convenience store essentials for locals. There will be a cafe area in the middle portion of the building connected to a nice size patio. Working with local wineries, we are the first Northern Virginia Piedmont Regional Hub by 2020.
