Beer
Beer is the name given to alcoholic beverages made from the fermentation of malted cereal grains or other starches.
In Babylonia and Egypt people were making beer well before grapes were even cultivated for wine-making . But the true art of beer making didn't really take off until the Middle Ages in Northern Europe where the climate is not conductive to grape cultivation and where the people, anyway, showed a marked preference for beers and ales. In fact most of the brewery terms used today are of Anglo-Saxon and North European origin: malt, wort, wash, beer.
Some small farms participate in the healthy "micro-brew" movement that has taken shape in the US: Many of our member farms make their own beer, and reliable sources have reported the results to be really outstanding.
