Ox Heights Farm - North Star Chestnuts integrates trees and animals in a family farm ecosystem (Silvopasture). We specialize in chestnuts, peaches, lamb, maple syrup and Christmas greenery.
Located at the tip of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. North Star Chestnuts is the furthest North of any chestnut orchard east of the Mississippi River. Our proximity to the Great Lakes provides warmth in the winter to protect our trees and the cooler growing season means we have some of the latest fresh chestnuts. Later nuts means we can provide a fresher product for you Holiday Celebrations.
Our sheep are 100% grass fed. We practice intensive grazing during the growing season and move the ewes and lambs to fresh pasture daily. Intensive grazing drastically reduces our need to use de-wormers and results in lambs that have had minimal to no treatments.
Our lambs are born in April and are ready for processing in October when they reach 75-100 lbs. They spend their entire lives on pasture cycling nutrients with much of our spring and early summer grazing between the rows of our chestnut trees.
