The Full CSA is about 1/2 bushel of produce and the Half CSA is more like 1/4 bushel. To help visualize what that looks like, an example of the difference in say an early summer Full and Half CSA would look something like this:
Half: pint of cherry tomatoes, 1 head lettuce, 1.5lb summer squash, 1-2lb onions, 1 bunch kale, 1 small herb bunch of Basil Full: All of the half share items above plus 1 bunch carrots, 1.5lb cucumber, 4-6 turnips, 2 bulbs garlic
Now of course this various exactly what type of produce and how much as the availability various through the summer, new crops come in, and adding "pricier" items to the box like tomatoes adjusts how much other produce we put in. We aim for variety and good value for our CSA customers. Overall, the Full shares see more variety in a given box and the Half shares see more variety from week to week. If the half shares didn't get something like carrots one week we will try to put it in the next week. We love our CSA family so we definitely put in extras for you so you get a better deal than if you bought from our booth at a market.
We also now offer a Market Style CSA on our farm in Joelton. This allows members to choose their produce each week from the week's selection instead of getting a pre-boxed share. See our website for more details.
