We cultivate many species of tropical fruit ranging from sapodilla and jackfruit to mangoes and avocados. Our specialty is mangoes, whose season typically runs from June to August.
During mango season, roughly 30 different varieties of mangoes can be purchased. Unlike commercial farms, whose focus is on labor savings and shipping characteristics, we only grow mangoes whose outstanding flavor profile is unlike any store bought mango.
The mango varieties we grow are as follows (bear in mind that availability varies through the season and from year to year): Angie, Cajeta, Carrie, Coc, Coconut Cream, Cogshall, Dot, Duncan, Edgar, Fruit Punch, Golden Queen, Guava, Keitt, Kesar, Lemon Zest, Maha Chinook, Mallika, Manga Blanca, Nam doc mai, Okrung, Orange Sherbet, Pickering, Pim seng mun, Pina Colada, Sunrise, Sweet Tart, Valcarrie, Venus
Most of our mangoes are allowed to ripen on the tree, picked just before they would otherwise fall to the ground. This requires a labor intensive twice per day picking schedule and means that ripe and ready to eat mangoes can be purchased nearly every day of the mango season.
Our calcium rich soil ensures maximum sweetness with little in the way of external input. Additionally, we spent nearly a decade building a rich organic soil by applying dozens of truckloads of tree trimmer mulch. Generally we only need to apply a small amount of potassium to achieve maximum flavor and ensure tree health.
While we are not organic certified, our practices are bio-friendly. (The fruit that we sell is the same that our family consumes!) At the beginning of each mango season, we apply light spray of of copper, sulfur, and an EPA reduced risk fungicide to the flowers and pea-sized fruit. The remainder of the year, the mangoes are allowed to grow pesticide free.
