Several years ago, my husband and I felt the need for change. Because being in nature is so important to us, we were drawn to the beauty and relative tranquility of Michigan's Harbor Country. We decided to try our hand at farming. Now our lives are full of new and challenging activities. There is never a dull moment....with pregnant cows, a bull, steers, one llama and numerous barn cats our lives are full. Oh, and we are as organic as we can be at this time! At Middlebrook Farm we raise registered Lowline Angus cattle, for breeding stock and beef. We feel strongly that animals should be raised entirely on their natural diet. And so, our cattle graze a pasture mix of grasses, clover and alfalfa. During the winter months they feast on a lot of hay! Lowline Angus are a small framed, calm version of Black Angus cattle. They are perfect for folks new to farming such as Bob and I. These animals are a pleasure to handle and we like to keep them happy! The breed is known for it's ability to efficiently convert grass to lean, tender beef. They get plenty to eat on less acreage. Perfect for small farms like ours. Studies show that 100% grassfed beef is lower in total fat, saturated fat and calories. It is higher in the "good fats" such as omega-3 fatty acids and CLA, and higher in Vitamin E, beta-carotene, and Vitamin C. Beef from Middlebrook Farm is USDA inspected and processed at a family farm south of Kalamazoo Michigan. The facility handles a small number of animals per processing session. The animals are treated humanely, in a calm and respectful manner. This was the determining factor for us in choosing a facility for our animals. We sell our beef frozen, in individually wrapped packages, priced by the pound. We are happy to e-mail our price list. Please call to pick-up beef, or to visit the farm. We'd like to introduce you to our 'happy' cows! And remember, we sell breeding stock as well, if you are overcome by the urge for change! Janet
