With my sons, I grow cattle, pumpkins, gourds, and other garden produce. Our 3 Angus crossbred cows eat all pasture and hay, and their offspring eat mostly grass in the summer but stored feeds in the winter. Grain is often cheaper than hay so the calves typically get more corn in the winter. We generally sell halves or quarters from 3 market animals each year. If you want them fed grain for the last month or two before slaughter we can do that! We bring to Northwest Pack in Rives Junction in late fall and then have Merindorf Meats by Mason do the processing. Nice and lean, vacuum packed--you decide how how you want the cuts. I also give you advice on how to best cook each cut. We have also grown lambs and pigs but will only do so now at request. If you are interested in having us raise a pig or half a pig for you this summer, please let us know by June 10--it will be ready about October.
Pumpkins and gourds of assorted shapes and sizes are ready about September. We also grow tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, peppers, ornamental corn, beans, and other produce if you want a local source.
I am not certified organic and believe that pesticides and fertilizers are occasionally warranted. But I guarantee my calves are treated with tender loving care and that pesticide use in our garden and pasture is minimal. You are welcome to come observe anytime you want!
