I'm a Navy Veteran and retired carpenter. A few years ago I learned of a program offered by Michigan State University called "Heros to Hives". It was a 9-month course about becoming a beekeeper. I finished the course and in the spring of 2022, I bought my first two bee colonies.

Since then I've continued studying bees and learning about what they need to stay healthy. My two colonies have grown to five colonies this year and I'm hopeful to double that number next season.

As a wonderful bonus, I find I have more honey than my family can use. Our honey is produced locally in the Uniontown, PA area. I currently have two bee yards. The honey is harvested twice a year in late June and September and is raw and unpasteurized to preserve its natural goodness.
