Fresh, local, organic food; free samples from l'etoile, goat cheese, food education, friendly folks, music, so many things! I even love the balloon guy! It's the best way to start a Saturday in Charlottesville.

Because it offers a forum for local farmers to earn a living, and because of the quality and variety of offerings they bring to our community.

Great local farmers, bakers and crafts. The vegatable garden advise and plants I get there has helped me develop a greener thumb, not to mention finally grow eggplant.

I love to eat local. In charlottesville, I can do that 2 times a week at the City market and the Meade Market. It's perfect for fresh produce and seeing what the local artisans are creating!

I love all the vendors and the variety of foods, jewlery, pottery, flowers/plants and the wonderful music that surrounds this healthy space. I meet and greet friends and neighbors over the local "joe" and fill my basket with the bounty of this great Virginia land. I definitely love it because it supports the local farmers, artisans and other local vendors.

Residents of Charlottesville and surrounding areas are huge supporters of "Buy Local, Buy Fresh" as seen on countless bumper stickers, and we LOVE to support our Farmer's Market every Saturday morning for a very LONG season. I'm so proud of our farmers and the many people who support an economy of locally grown fresh produce.

This was my favorite source for fresh fruits and veggies during my summers in Charlottesville. Not only that, but the community and opportunity for display of all various artisans is part of what makes Charlottesville so special.

The vendors and the ladies that run the market are the best, we have many vendors who want to get in but can't due to the lack of space

Because all my Virginia cousins who live in Charlottesville and the beautiful surrounding area, Afton, Waynesboro, etc. said it is the best and they sell their organic homegrown vegies, etc. there! And I still love my home state, Virginia, and just know it is the best because of the soil... my Daddy's garden was the most gorgeous ever... a long time ago!

It's a great place to support local farmers and craftspeople. Every year there's more organic and no-spray produce and heirloom varieties of fruits and veggies. Some of my favorites are Debra's jewelry at the Glass Turtle, Elena's flowers and green beans, the Nelke's potatoes and Waterpenny Farm's blueberries. I like that it's located near downtown so that many of us can walk there.

It's the best of the best! The fruits, vegetables and plants are fresh and beautiful, the vendors are terrific (especially the Cason boys) and have such wonderful stories to tell. It's evident that a lot of care and hard work goes into the products sold and we are lucky to have this Market

Our market is fantastic! It's the only thing that has ever gotten me up early on a Saturday morning. You can get anything from fresh-made donuts to wonderful local produce, meats, and cheeses to jewelry! I love buying local and our market has a fantastic selection. And it's a nice way to meet other people in the community. I think we all take pride in it.

Food fresh, nutritious and delicious...from the farm to the plate! Plus, besides shopping for the groceries, you can find all sorts of stuff for the home or gifts....and the money spent is going right back into the local economy. And it saves fuel....dont have to buy a bag of earthbound salad from California. The Charlottesville market tastes better and feels better...get to know those that grow your food...it is empowering!

Cville City Market has a terrific selection of produce, meat, dairy, and baked goods. My husband and I are able to do nearly 100% of our grocery shopping there. There are plenty of very affordable options, and most of the goods are locally produced (which is NOT the case at many farmers markets).

The Charlottesville City Market is my Saturday ritual. It helps me switch gears from the rush of the week to the simple pleasures of the weekend. The farmers are friendly faces who remember you, and who are truly a part of this community. There are always delights to behold... including chef demonstrations and fabulous local musicians. When I'm traveling over the weekend, I miss my market. When friends come for the weekend, I am always anxious to show them my market. It's at the center of what I love about my city.

The market has great produce-- the things I can't get to grow well in my own garden. It also has a wonderful baker, Cricket, of Cricket's Baked Goods, who makes the BEST bread, gingersnaps and scones, a premier flower provider, Green and Gold, and absolutely unique fruit combinations of local jam made with all local fruit, Jam According to Daniel. There is also a table where master gardeners are there to help with garden problems -- what a great place!

There are always a LOT of venders with a HUGE variety of produce, each vying for the buyer's dollars! I have a particular "farmer" who knows me by sight, and picks out the best cucumbers and tomatoes when he sees me coming! There's even bakery goods; and nothing like a hot cinnamon bun to keep your spirits high!

This market has been around for over 25 years and is an absolutely wonderful mix of the best local produce, baked goods, on-the-spot delicious food and beautiful work of local artists and artisans that you can find in Central Virginia. The City Market features over 100 vendors and is managed by the Charlottesville City Dept. of Parks and Recreation which lends the use of land, support and staff services which makes this local treasure a pleasure for all who visit. The City Market runs from the first Saturday in April until the last Saturday before Christmas thus blending the traditional Farmers Market with the Holiday Market."Locally Grown and Locally Made" is the theme for the Market and it's success is based on the large volume of people who attend and the gross sales each year. More importantly, it is a public space which brings together people from all walks of life to enjoy the many fruits of people's labor. It is a weekly gathering place where personal relationships are made between the vendors and members of the public and a sense of community amidst a troubled world is established. The Charlottesville City Market remains a place where people can come together and find some common ground, plus do their grocery shopping, eat delicious food and buy a handmade gift for a friend. It does not get much better than this.
