For a small and mid-west town, the Warrensburg Farmer's Market really proves what a small amount of people who care can really accomplish.

Warrensburg is a small, relaxed country town. Although a couple of years ago many of the residents would have never used the words "local" and "produce" together in the same sentence, the farmer's market is beginning to raise a ruckus in the town. I have been going every Saturday to the market for two years now and in that time have seen it double in the number of vendors. A great variety of high quality natural produce and home made things is available at the market including: heirloom tomatoes, berries of all kinds, hand spun yarn and the much coveted shitake and oyster mushrooms which are missing at most other FMs including the KC City Market. The prices are very reasonable and the vendors are extremely friendly and love to know their customers on a first name basis. I love the Warrensburg market and although I could go to quite a few larger markets in Kansas City and have in the past, I have decided to stay loyal to the Warrensburg market because of its wonderful vendors, importance to our community and its down-home goodness.

I want to eat food that has been raised by local farmers, food that will have no irradiation, food that is fresh, and food that is not contaminated by chemicals. I also want to help the local economy and reward individuals for hard work.

there is nothing better than fresh fruit and veggies, and I'm a firm believer in supporting our local community.

Shopping at our Farmers' Market provides a chance to be "green" in a town that has not been very supportive of environmental sustainability. I vote for the environment with my dollars whenever I have a chance.
