For all the "green" reasons. Freshness of the produce. Most is organic. Promotes biodiversity. Like to buy local, support local producers, artisans. Reduce transportation costs. Less carbon footprint. But also because it offers community cohesiveness. Tourism and vacationers are a big part of our local economy - visitors love it and it gives them a positive image of our community. It's good for everybody!

It is what you expect and want from a farmer's market. Fresh produce with many choices of fruits, vegtables, etc., wonderful healthy shrubs and flowers to landscape your yard, farm animals, many more vendors to make purchases for yourself or give as gifts. You can come to the Heathsville Farmers Market and have breakfast, lunch, meet friendly people, and go home with great purchases and memories.

I believe it is the best Farmers Market because it has such a variety of things to buy and see and learn about. So many helpful, friendly and enthusiastic volunteers that put on this market each month. It has great produce & plants which I believe is the most important part of a farmers market! Oh yeah! The food is great too!!!!

I am new to the Farmer's Market. As a new member to the Northern Neck Community I want to support local produce, plants, the farmers and local vendors. Fresh locally grown vegetables, beef, pork, eggs, etc are a must for us. I have also enjoyed the organic clothing, and bedding from one of the vendors.

There is always an extra themed attraction for attendees that provides education about local enterprises, activities and groups that are in the Northern Neck. The local produce, plants and other products are very popular with visitors and the merchants make everyone feel welcome. This a well run diverse market that is a valuable asset to the community.

Shopping at Heathsville Farmer's Market supports real local farmers here in our rural area. Kids can come out and learn about history in the civil war encampment, discover interesting facts about chickens and other pets or livestock, and enjoy a fresh made lemon limeade while watching the blacksmith.
One can take home locally made goat's milk soap and fresh veggies grown right here in the Northern Neck.

I was one of the original rangers back in early 90's and have watched the tremendous support and dedication of many fine people make the dream we all had come alive and continue to grow. My career does not allow me to be closely involved now but I'm so proud of each and every volunteer and those who have taken leadership rolls. The Northern Neck is a true treasure and this market compliments it's history, charm and future growth.

Rice's Tavern Historical Society has done a great job of starting and building this market to serve our rural tidewater area. They keep improving the facillty and most recently added a covered pavilion to the grounds. It even has an indoor restroom. Many of the markets have a theme to attract more attendees, making for more sales for the vendors. In general they try to have at least 80% of the items for sale either made or grown by the vendor. It's a dog and people friendly market, which also has many FREE spaces for community non profit organizations.

This market is a partnership between the county government and a nonprofit foundation dedicated to preserving an old colonial courthouse tavern, circa 1795. The monthly market on the tavern grounds features local produce, livestock, artisanal meat and other food products, and a wide array of crafts, and is a community gathering place where local nonprofits can reach their constituents and supporters. The market features cultural events such as wine tastings, civil war reenactors, quilt galas, spinners, weavers, blacksmiths, pet days, YMCA kids' days with fun rides and games, and much more. Only five years old, the market has grown by leaps and bounds, and attracts visitors to the area as well as residents of this and several surrounding counties. It has truly become again the social center that it was in colonial times.
