The project had a tight time line as family would be coming to visit over Mother's Day weekend. Reni delivered as promised. She selected about 18 varieties of wildflowers and grasses, ranging from plugs to seeds to forbs. About 60% came from her Winterhaven Farms, while the remainder came from her very good sources. She is a consummate networker in the native plant community. Her knowledge and encouragement of my plan was very supportive. Plus, she's fun to talk with!
She gave me the common names of the plants along with colors to expect. I "floorplanned" the garden and created what I hope will be a magical, mosaic carpet parallel to our conservation zone.
Reni is a dynamo with a vision and the drive to bring that vision to fruition. She will be helping me to secure an Indiana DNR grant to reconstruct our section of the conservation zone. My husband loves the concept also and even got his knees muddied while planting the common milkweed forbs...thus securing our garden's designation as a "Monarch Way Station."
We hope to add another strip to our garden next year...eventually our lawnmower may make the next garage sale!
