Our first CSA with Todd and Julia was absolutely wonderful! I wouldn't trust my curly kale, chard, and purple potatoes to anyone else. They are such great farmers and even better people. We even got to visit their farm and help till the land. Read about it here;

We shopped at the Peasants' Plot weekly at the Lincoln Square Farmers Market in the summer 2008 and enthusiastically joined their CSA in 2009 (we are renewing for 2010). We have never had anything that hasn't been exceptionally fresh and delicious. Our favorites have been the potatoes, salad mix, and lettuce varieties. Todd is at the market every week and he is happy to give you all of the details about the various offerings and he always has recipe suggestions too. Certain items seemed to be staples throughout the season while there would also usually be one or two specialty items each week. I liked the variety but also that we weren't stuck with anything so out of the ordinary that we had no idea what to do with it.
Todd and Julia are great and are always easy to talk to and happy to answer any questions or concerns. You might not get the consistency you would with a larger CSA (for example last summer the weather and a problem with a greenhouse resulted in less tomatoes than the year before) but we like supporting a smaller organization where you actually see the farmer each week. We've never made it out to the farm, but we regularly receive email invitations to visit the farm or attend one of the special events they organize.
Overall we highly recommend!

I've been stopping to buy from Julia every Sunday for the past two summers, and she always has a smile and a recipe idea to share. Their produce is fantastic and I'm so excited to be part of their CSA this year!

I don't know a lot about how Peasants Plot got their start, but I do know that they are still getting established and are absolutely doing everything right. They are very organized and easy to do business with. Sensibly, they have not taken on more than they can handle in terms of shareholders, and as result everything runs extremely smoothly. (My first CSA experience was the complete opposite--although the produce was great, the farmer was stretched so thin in terms of commitments and was so disorganized that it made the experience very frustrating.)
But, all that aside: THEIR VEGETABLES ARE AWESOME. My husband is a particular fan of their potatoes. Every week we enjoyed a nice assortment of produce and Julie and Todd are a pleasure to deal with. Unlike some of the bigger and better known CSA's, you get to meet the actual person that is growing your food when you pick up. They are a CSA in the best sense of the word.
Additionally, although I never had the opportunity to take advantage of the special events held at the farm, they offered many opportunities during the season to actually get out to there. The farm is not far from Chicago (which I am sure positively affects their dependability) and that makes a trip out for a workshop or event or to volunteer very feasible.
All in all, these guys are great! They provide great produce, are very organized, and super nice people. Enough said.

After occasionally buying from Peasant's Plot at the Wicker Park Farmers Market, last summer was my first subscription. Their produce has been a delight every week. It exceeds all expectations in freshness and variety. I learned to love kale and this was a veggie that I had never cooked before. The family is looking forward to summer 2010 when we can again have all those super fresh, yummy veggies.

We've been enjoying produce from Peasants' Plot for the last two summers. We love the lettuce, kale, carrots and garlic! Everything is delicious and super fresh! This place is the essence of ethical farming. The farm is owned by a very nice couple who are dedicated to organic farming and providing the best produce to their customers.
