We just got back from World Hunger Relief in Waco. We took our junior high youth for two days to learn, participate and practice the lessons of our earth. The people at World Hunger Relief are great teachers. We not only learned about the workings of a farm, but learned that recycling is not just plastic bottles and paper. Just about EVERYTHING can be recycled. The students were taught about putting yourself into another's situation. In one activity, the students were given 13 cents to simulate buying food they would need. One student was not given money. The students got together and gave her what they could and she then had money to buy food. Some students had to pick food and others were sent to get some water and bring it back to the house.
I can't list all they did and the kids had a blast! They want to go back. I find the best way to learn is when you don't know you're being taught! Our students learned a lot!
