We joined the Fertile Crescent Farm CSA for the first time last summer- our first experience with a CSA. My 5-year-old checked the calendar each day to see how many days were left until it was time to go to 'the market'. Nothing could keep him away from picking up 'his' shares each week, which was the most exciting event for him each week all summer long. He was even worried when we went on vacation and missed a week's share.
Our friends and family find it hard to believe that a 5-year-old's favorite foods could actually be 'baby tomatoes' and kale. He first tried kale the week before his last flag football game of the season and pulled his first-ever flag from the opposing team. He was certain that kale did the trick and it's been his favorite 'super food' ever since. He even received his own special bunch of kale on weeks when kale wasn't part of that week's CSA harvest.
What do we love most about Fertile Crescent Farm?? The produce is varied, fresh and free of all of the junk that is found in most supermarket produce. I am happy to be able to rely on and trust that we are eating delicious, healthy, clean food. We love knowing who grows our food, where it's grown and when it's harvested.
We defintely became spoiled by the foods we took home each week. We are counting the weeks until the season is here again and we're able to take our weekly trips to find what yummy things we get to take home! Hurry up Summer!!!!!!!

the food we've received from our CSA shares over the last two years has fed our bodies & our souls. we love seeing the work of darbi & adam via fertile crescent farm each week spread out like a banquet. each vegetable, each leaf has been nurtured to its peak.
last summer i watched as another CSA member & friend's 5-year-old son bit into the tomatoes and let the juice run to his elbow. we've had to negotiate with our son so that we could eat some of the green beans, too, as they are his favorite food in the share (and there were 4 wonderful types to enjoy!).
rarely did we have to add much to our share, since it was a really balanced assortment of veggies. i will confess: i'd purchase extra sungold cherry tomatoes because i would make them my market snack! so, so good.
we are as eager to see what the 2010 season holds in store. over the course of receiving the CSA shares, we have enjoyed the creativity that comes with holding these good, fresh ingredients.
fertile crescent farm's blog offers great recipes from the farm & CSA members. http://www.fertilecrescentfarm.blogspot.com
we're hooked. yum.
