I'd rather buy fresh veggies grown from local farms than the produce shipped across country to the stores that has sat in boxes for who knows how long. Not only are the veggies fresher, most are pesticide free, and it supports a local farm/family.

The best part of Lexington is the Saturday Farmer's Market. Folks come from all over the state to bring their wares, the foods they have tended, the rocks they have pulled from the mountains, the treats they have made and baked and brewed and vinted. Better than any of the cheeses, breads, coffee, fruits or vegetables are the people who are handing me the best food in the world that they themselves have tended. I am fed not only in my body from their efforts, but their friendliness feeds my soul as well. Our best asset in Lexington is our personal collections of the farmers who feed us.

I love the Farmers Market. There is a wonderful atmosphere and everyone feels welcome. The produce is wonderful and there is a great deal to choose from. Food form the market tastes so much better than from the store. I love the specialty items such as soaps and cheeses, and there is quite the selection on that as well. I really enjoy being able to support my local economy and the opportunity to buy from people who use sustainable practices.

I support the Lexington Farmers Market because not only does it highlight one of the Bluegrass Region's greatest assets, its dedicated farming community, but it gives downtown Lexington a heightened sense of place. The Lexington market, particularly in its new location, brings Lexingtonians together, makes newcomers feel like they are immediately welcomed, and encourages people to venture downtown for other events as well. A special nod to my favorite Lexington Farmers Market vendor -- Paw Prints Bakery!

We need to support our local farmers and at the same time supply our families with fresh healthy food. Too many family farms have been sub-divided into residential sites. These are hard times for everyone but it seems our farmers have been hit extremely hard. This is a small thing we can do to support them and a very smart thing we can do for our family.

I started going to this market when I was going to UK in the 90's. My parents moved to Lexington about 10 yrs ago. I introduced them to the market and they've been going ever since. Even though I've been living in a different city for the past 6 years, I always make several trips to the Lexington Farmer's market because of my relationship with the farmers there, and the quality of produce.

Children don't learn because of what we say, but rather what they see us do. Families that bring their children and even the family dog to the Farmers Market each week, are teaching lessons that will last a lifetime. Lessons about caring where your familiy's food comes from, about commerce, about community and the things that make Lexington such a special place to live. Class will be in session again this weekend!
