There will be secret shoppers at the Freight House Farmers Market for the rest of the season. There is a laundry list of items that they will be looking for, but freshness and quality are at the top of this list. They will also be looking for things like vendor quality, atmosphere, cleanliness, and variety. I guess the secret's out!

Brazy Creek had the most awesome radish display at the market last week. They had lots of varieties of radishes, greens and their jams were good too. They were giving samples... check them out at the market next week...

I just love the farmer's market. The vendors are so nice, and generous every week. No one is pushing their products on people. I like to make friends with the people i buy from, and they are all good people so far. I absolutely love the salsa I get, mango, pineapple, red raspberry, bean and corn, etc! YUM. hungry just thinking about it.. I think Ill go tomorrow!

It is such a treat for me to be able to go to the Davenport Freight House Farmers Market. What an ''EVENT''!! I have to make a ''walk-through'' before I let myself start buying. I want to see everything, and that takes awhile! Of course I get to drink my fresh coffee from inside the Freight House while I'm walking!!

I go with a list, but always buy much more than what I had on that list!

I grew up on a little farm & I understand all the hard work it takes to get that finished product on display. It is such a treat for me to be able to get all the fresh produce! Thank-you!!!

My son & I went there last saturday, we got there before 10a.m. & still could not find a place to park. We had to walk a mile just to get there. I bought some cookies from a young amish girl, cookies from the cookie lady & a loaf of cinnamon bread which the syrup from the sticky cinnamon on the bottom of the bread was hard around the edges. When we got home, we tasted these products & they were stale & dry. The cookie lady said the cookies were moist, but they weren't. They were dry, the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies from the amish girl were also dry, & the cinnamon bread which was the most expensive was extremely hard & dry. I had to throw everything out. What a waste of a single parents hard working money! I may sometime go there just to walk around & taste their free samples, but I'll never buy anything there again! Another lady who had baked goods at the Bettendorf one also had dried out cookies. Don't these people taste their baked goods before they sell them? Yuck!!!!

I don't understand why you would as you said, "go there and taste the samples" but "you'd never buy anything". If you aren't going to buy then leave the samples for people who are interested in buying. If it was that bad then don't bother with the samples or stick with the healthy fruits and veggies.

and its probably good you had to walk a mile to get there... probably the most exercise you got all week...no offense.

I completely understand your disappointment, but maybe you should be buying fruits and vegetables at the farmers market, instead of cookies and cakes. I'm just saying, you are probably used to the "store versions" of cookies, which are most likely baked using a lot more sugar, oil, etc. If you try the fruits and vegetables, you might like them better than the fruits and vegetables you buy at the store. Your hard-earned money would be much better spend on something with nutritional value anyway...

What doesn't is have? Vendors outside under tents, as well as inside a historic freight house, view of the Miss River, fruits, veggies, exotic meats, potted plants, soaps, candles, coffee, wine, home-made food, honey, and more! If you haven't seen it, you haven't seen the best in the Midwest!

I've been to several farmers markets in other states & as far as I am concerned the one at Davenport Freight House is the best, by far. I look forward to going there, every chance I get. Keep up the good work. I think having the playground & music is the best. Way to go Davenport, let's get more things going downtown again. Davenport is the greatest. Everyone is so friendly & helpful. Having part of it in a historic building' year round, is a big plus.

There are so many vendors and they stay rain or shine. There's enough room to walk around in the outdoor area. The vendors inside are good, too, and I like it that they will be "year round". For instance, I'll like having the smoked fish year round. That area is a bit more crowded, though.

The Quad Cities is truly lucky to have the" Best Farmers Market". Where can you go every Saturday (year round) and get a pork chop sandwich, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade(I get the sugar free) bring your dog, kids, maybe even Granny in a wheel chair. Buy your meats, veggies, eggs, fresh cheese curds, and baked goods(banana bread for $1.00 omg ) In a setting that is very clean, safe, easy parking, kid friendly. On the Mississippi River. They have Bands, demo's (how to cook), fund raisers for food shelters. It just keeps getting bigger and better every weekend. It is a must see for yourself, but be careful you will get hooked fast. The Vendors are very friendly, and know what they talking about! If you like samples?Yes, they got them! (YUMMY)

The Davenport Freight House Farmers Market has grown into a very valuable asset for the Quad Cities bringing our local growers together to help promote a healthy lifestyle by selling their fresh fruits and vegetables. The location is perfect and everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable. I think I learn something new every time I go. If you have never been you must try it, you will not be sorry. Thanks to all for the hard work that goes in to making this happen. This truly is the best Farmers Market.

The only year-round farmers market in Iowa, the vendors with the support of the Davenport Levee Commission have created a lively, exciting place to shop, relax and to learn.

as a producer and consumer i am always happy to see venues that support local production and reduces the distance between consumer and producer. it;s safer and more satisfying to know where your food comes form and as a producer, to know where it's going and what's happening to what you grew with your labor. freight House Markets adds layers to that connection by sponsoring activities and forums that add value and meaning to what we produce and consume and transact in an otherwise impersonal and meaningless marketplace.

Where to start. Located on the Mississippi River our market is a social event for us, catching up with friends which includes the vendors. During the season we can find most eveything we need here for fun and delicious meals. One thing we are most pleased about is the increasing selection of organic produce being offered and options for healthy & respectfully raised meat. Now open on tuesdays, we can have market goods nearly all week and a midweek dinner out (hot dogs) from one of the friendly vendors. Our market is also open during the winter inside the Freight House for which it's named. Amazing baked goods, cheese, meat, fresh eggs, hand made soap, delicious locally roasted coffee make holiday shopping a breeze.

The Freight House Farmer's Market has a variety of fresh produce from (A)rgula to (Z)ucchini, and if you can't find it at this market...it doesn't grow in our region. The fresh baked goods offered makes ones mouth water, and vendors with meat products are top quality. Not only can you buy things to eat, but you can browse a variety of fine arts and craft products. There always new vendors and new products. If you are philathropic minded, the Freight House Farmer's Market gives back to the community by providing free booths for non-profit organizations to raise funds for their programs. They also offer a wide variety of educaitonal programs, special events, entertainment, and support healthy living. The picutesque backround setting of the market is the Mississippi River waterfront, a park with shade trees, and a baseball park. The FHFM operation hours are very convenient, especially for those of us who work...Saturday 8:00-1:00 and Tuesday 3:00-6:00. They have a winter indoor market from November to April, and the outdoor/indoor market is from May to October. Its a great place to browse the booths and meet friends!
