I picked up my last box of 2011 from Valley Family Farm yesterday. This season they had some of the most spectacular sweet corn I've had in a long time. Their lettuces in spring are outstanding. I also like the fact that they're one of the few that operates an extra month in fall--until the end of October--so I get plenty of winter squash, one of my favorites. (It's also when the pumpkins, Brussels sprouts and honey come in.) I signed up for this CSA in 2009 and 2011, but unfortunately missed 2010. Both years I got many, but not all, of the items listed. That's the way farming goes--some years some crops shine, others fail. I get the large box, which gives us plenty to eat fresh and also enough to freeze for use during the winter. I will be joining Valley Family Farm's CSA next year for sure!

Last year was my first year and so while I don't have anything to compare it to, I will most likely try it again. Pat & Ken are wonder and VERY giving (reflected in the produce box each week too). I enjoy knowing that my food was grown with care and without chemicals. Last year was a bad year for many farmers due to the rain. Hopefully, this year will be better and a bit more variety.

This CSA definitely wasn't what I was expecting based on the description on this website. While there was lots of corn, tomatoes, and peppers, I never received any honey, flowers, arugula, brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, leeks, radishes, spinach, sweet potatoes, or turnips. We got really tired of the same few things every week, so we will not be joining this CSA again next year.

We love having Valley Family Farm as a core vendor at our Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market! Besides being a joy to work with, their produce is always gorgeous. Even though they haven't been CSA farmers for a long time, these experienced growers produce incredible, quality produce...

Every week from Spring to Fall my family and I looked forward to opening our box and finding what farm fresh vegetables we would be eating for the week. From the first salad in Spring to tomatoes, onions, summer squash, green beans and on and on to winter squash and even pumpkins in the Fall every box was truly a box of delights and Pat and Ken are such great caring people to work with...what a deal. When I figured what I would usually spend a summer buying fresh produce not to mention driving around to find them, we are not only getting the best vegetables but saving a lot of time and money. What a great idea this is. I'll be back for years to come as long as Pat, the garden goddess and Ken are in business.
