Because it rocks! excellent quality fruit and veggies, sweet coffee and ice cream, and greatest of all, Goat products (meat, AND cheese), and Bison vendor. It's awesome.
It's also right in the center of old greenbelt, every sunday, so come on over!

A wonderful mix of vendors offering fresh local produce, flowers, eggs, meats, cheeses, coffee and even homemade ice cream!! The best market in the area, great to visit with my family after church every Sunday. Vendors remember us and make recommendations on how to prepare and what to get now before it's out of season.

The food is local, therefore better for the environment and sold closer to harvest time for maximum fresh flavor and nutrition than shipped foods. There is wide variety - fruit, veggie, herbs, flowers, cheeses, meats, fish, eggs from happy chickens, bread. Even home-made ice-cream with local ingredients! And if you don't find it at the market, the grocery store is right there, too.

all the vendors come from within 100 miles, most are organic, though not necessarily certified as that is very difficult for small farms, the have a very nice mix of fruit, vegetables, meats, fish, cheeses, bread and even ice cream, AND last but not least they have a booth open every week for a community non-profit to spread the word about their organization and what they are trying to accomplish. I also belong to a CSA that delivers to my area on Thursday, and with the market on Sunday it keeps me in free organic produce all the time.

This market has great synergy with related options nearby. For example, the Co op supermarket just next door supports the Farmers' Market. In addition, the produce manager at the Co Op is doing a cooking demonstration at the market. I think there might be a relationship too between the coffee vendor at the Farmer's Market and the coffee served as the nearby New Deal Cafe. WHERE can you go in this area and see that high a level of community vendors interacting with each other in a business sense? Wow. This is great thinking, folks! A win-win for everyone.

The Greenbelt Farmers Market is the best thing to happen to this part of the DC Metro area for quite a long time. The market has a great variety of produce vendors, as well as a meat and egg distributor, quality bakery, coffee, ice cream, flowers, crafts and more. There is even live music on occasion.
I am able to find all the food staples for the week, yet am always introduced to something new like an heirloom variety of eggplant or local variety of grape. The vendors are passionate about their product and happy to share their knowledge.
The market staff is great - very friendly and helpful. Well staffed information desk and the market offers great extra curricular activites for patrons such as recipes, a weekly newsletter and an end of the season dinner.

The Greenbelt Farms Market, located in Greenbelt, MD, has a lot to offer. Every time I visited the Market, the products were always well labeled and the help desk was staffed with knowledgeable volunteers.
The produce offerings were always solid. However, the Greenbelt Farmers Market is anything but mundane. Some of the products and farmers varied a little every time I went, and it was great to see a fisher-women one week and an ice-cream maker the next.
The space the Market uses is conveniently located in downtown Greenbelt, has plenty of parking, and additional shopping in the area.
The Greenbelt Farms Market really runs a tight ship, it's amazing that 2008 was their first season. Looking forward to the 2009 season!
