At this market you meet some of the most peaceful, loving and down-to-earth folks in the world. It leaves no surprise that the quality of produce, baked goods and other items reflect that of their vendor.
It is a livelihood for some, a hobby for others, but most of all, it provides a civil service to anyone who loves good food.

Besides being the social event for Saturday mornings, our market has the best selection for local produce - vegies & fruit; some of the tastiest and healthiest baked goods and granolas; great eggs, meats, cheeses and salsas; in addition to the wide variety of flowers, plants & shrubs for sale. We also have the opportunity to sit and chat with friends over a freshly brewed cup of tea while eating locally produced lunch items. I also enjoy the monthly food contests and the free foods that we get to sample. Lastly, the vendors are very friendly and informative and I commend them for being at the market in rain or shine year round.

when i was a graduate student at ou in the late 90's and early 00's, i went to the farmer's market nearly every weekend. it was a place for me to see my fellow classmates, friends, and even some of my professors. it was a lovely way to wind down a busy week of teaching and taking classes. i so enjoyed hearing the music, buying casa nueva salsa, fresh produce, baked goods, the best wildflowers, and getting a lemon shake-up from the ali baba booth. now that i am not in athens anymore, every saturday i miss going to the farmer's market there. nothing around my neck of the woods can compare even though i do support my local farmer's markets. the times that i have visiting athens since graduation, i have planned my trip around saturday morning to be sure i can visit my favorite vendors. for those of you who are fortunate enough to call athens home, i envy your being able to have the farmer's market a part of your weekly routine.

I have lived in Athens for the last 21 years, and have watched as it has grown and developed into the market it is today. The Athens Farmers Market has done wonders to bring this community together from the youngest child to the oldest residents, and has created a way for locals to share their produce, buy fresh food for their families, and (being in a small town) the market has given us a way to socialize and chat up friends from all around southeastern Ohio. It is a place that holds fond memories of summer.

The Farmer's market provides a sustainable way of living. A a vegetarian and person dedicated to environmental responsibility, it is a haven for fresh vegetables grown organically and often with heirloom seeds. The stalls offer fresh breads from local bakeries, flowers, foodstuffs, and one most likey knows several vendors on a personal basis or at least with the knowledge of seeing them around town. You can stroll the market and get breakfast, an excellent cup of tea or coffee(fair trade) while supporting your community.
