Because it's important for people who live in urban areas to have easy access to healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables. Neighborhood Farmer's Markets make this possible.

do we really need to explain the need for afordable fruit and vegtables to be avaiable for everyone!
how wonderfull that this is there for everyone in dorchester to be able to take advantage of, inmy opinion there should be one on every block, or at least near all of the other business that take advantage of access to make money off of foods that are bad for you.

I support the Codman Farmers' Market because it helps people easily find healthy, local food. Plus, there's nothing like a farmers' market to bring the community together and make grocery errands feel like doing something social!

Because in the shadow of McDonald's we need healthy alternatives and a connection to the growers. What a great model for the kids in the neighborhood.

The Codman Square Farmers Market has such a great impact on Dorchester's community health and community spirit! People can come together with their neighbours while shopping for high quality and nutritious food for themselves and their families.

The Codman Square Farmers Market is an example of a diverse community coming together to share in good food. Young and old work together to promote it and ensure it runs smoothly, and the farmers are cognizant of making sure the produce types and prices are appropriate for the urban, often immigrant, consumers.

My sister usually goes to farmers market, and one year she brought home a weird fruit/vegetable. Little did I know, my sister turned it into a soup and I actually liked it! HOWEVER, I will now monitor my sister incase she puts something crazy again. Otherwise it allowed me to try something new at a great price. I just wish she could have told me before hand...-_-

Imagine emerging from a congested urban intersection in an economically challenged community and seeing white canopies set up on the sidewalk with fresh organic vegetables, fruits, and flowers bursting forth from underneath them! Imagine this scene repeated every Thursday afternoon for months! Now imagine what this sight means to the thousands of urban households who traverse this intersection and live in a community void of fresh produce. The Codman Square Farmers Market does more than nourish the body...it nourishes the soul of a community!

It allows me to shop for fruits and vegetables that I know are really fresh. Creates a personal and lasting relationship with the farmers, their families and the community. It also signals for the first time the foods to support a healthy community for all of our residents young and old.

It is the only one of its kind in Codman Square! We are overloaded with stores that sell foods high in fat, and sugars. The Codman Square Farmer's market satisfies a need in our community- we have the highest rates of diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. With more access to fresh, organic fruits and vegetables we as residents are taking a stand for our health. Plus there is always music at our market, and a strong youth presence assisting with the market. The Codman Square Farmer's Market is unique because residents volunteer day of the market to help run things, and worked to bring the market into our neighborhood. And we love Silverbrook Farm!

In Dorchester we don't have a lot of options for fresh fruits and veg. I cannot travel to whole foods etc and the farmers market prove with the fresh fruits and veg I need for me and my two boys. They are also resonable priced, i am a single mom and money is a big factor.

It allows the community to be able to have really fresh fruits and vegetables. Not store bought fruits and vegetables which sometimes in order for them to get to the supermarkets, a lot of chemicals are used to preserve the freshness. The Farmer Market fruits and vegetables are organic and chemical free. Really Fresh!!!!

People need and appeciate access to fresh produce and vegetables. By shopping in Codman Square, people can save money, obtain fresher, higher quality products, save energy by not needing to shop at a distant market and get to know their neighbors and neighborhood as well. It is a win for all concerned.
