I would rather support local farmers than shop at the grocery store because the produce is fresher and cheaper.

The Oakland Food Connection's Farmers Market does a great job serving the Laurel district of Oakland. In a neighborhood that has experienced much economic blight, the Farmer's Market brings folks out on foot, to enjoy food, music and community events every week. The Laurel community is beginning to show signs of new life!

Because it is run by youth that the Oakland Food Connection have trained in growing their own food urban gardens and cooking them! They have music and entertainment. Most of all, everyone there is friendly, warm, and positive, which are things that are necessarily noticed by the media about Oakland, particular the East Oakland community.

I support Oakland Community Farmers' Market because it truly is a community market! The market always features local musical talent, delicious food prepared and served by local youth, artisanal products and fresh organic produce from some of my favorite local growers.

Buying LOCAL Nutritious & delicious food supports local farming, great sense of community, AND brings green marketing into a variety of neighborhoods in Oakland -- this is particularly important in West Oakland and other economically marginalized communities of color. We need to have healthy food for ALL our children!!! and lower our collective carbon footprint.

Local farmers, less fuel spent shipping produce around, fresher eggs, fruits, and veggies, meet the people who grow your food!

The Grand Lake farmers market ROCKS. It is the soul of our neighborhood. We visit with old friends and meet new ones.

In my neighborhood, fresh vegetables and fruit are hard to come by, as there are few grocery stores and whatever vegetables and fruits are sold in liquor or other stores are expensive.

It's around the corner from my house, I love walking around the corner to get the freshest produce straight from the farmer.

Whenever I'm in Oakland I make it a point to go to the Farmers Market at Jack London Square. They not only have fresh fruit, flowers and produce but they also sell breads, honey, pasties and other good things make and/or gathered by local folks. Great stuff!

I support the Oakland Community Farmers' Market because I believe it's very important to support locally grown food and the farmers that grow. By supporting the farmers we are making a lighter foot print on the planet and producing less green house gases. We cannot afford to loose our local farmers! Especially small family farms. They are vital to a healthy and sustainable community. Shopping at the farmers market is rewarding in that you are supporting the farmers livelihood and getting the freshest fruits and vegetables as wells as lots of other good artisan foods.

I enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere of everyone walking around, tasting the produce, and how slow and relaxed everything feels--It's something I look forward to, especially with rushing around all week with work.
