I have been excited from the first time I heard that a farmer's market was a possibility and ecstatic when iit got to the planning stage. To see it come full circle is a most happy and healthful thing for me.

Being a "green freak" I was thrilled to see TayLee join in. Organic gardening is where it's at for me and my family. It's costly to eat healthy, but buying local is a little less expensive. Love the heirloom tomatoes! :)

All in all, I say it 's a great start to something that was definitely needed and missed in Clayton and is now a major player in what gives Clayton that "home town feeling".

Can't sign off without giving kudos to those who make it possible. Keep up the good work!

I like to see the Clayton Farm & Community Market open on Saturday morning, it helps to give Main Street and Clayton a "small town ambiance", it greatly adds to the spirit of "community". I think it's important to support local farmers and help revive the local economy.

I support Clayton Farm & Community Market to enjoy local produce. It is not far away and I have found a place to buy freshly grown shitake mushrooms by Riverman Mushrooms. Wonderful!!

It's a great honest effort to bring the fruits of the area to the people of the town, and it will grow as more participate.

I live in Clayton, NC and believe in supporting local markets. In doing so, a multiplier effect is felt throughout the community. Money stays local and more local goods and services are purchased. The best part of our local market is helping the farmers/vendors. As a customer, I get the best of the local fruits & veggies. The farmers get an outlet for selling their goods. Everyone wins!

I support the Clayton Market because it is the most local food I can buy and I like knowing where my food comes from and talking to the person who actually grew the food.

There's nothing better than freshly picked produce!! I bought all of my herb plants there and they are florishing, and not because of my not-so-green thumb. I also bought two tomato plants from a vendor. This is the first time I've ever tried to grow tomatoes. The vendor was so helpful and told me exactly what I needed to do to grow them. I've even gone back and asked him questions when I had a small problem. He's always been so friendly and helpful. My 6 year-old loves going to the market and choosing fresh berries and baked goods. It's fun to see how excited she gets to do this in downtown Clayton. On top of that, the Clayton farmer's market is in a beautiful and convenient location. Job well done and thank you to all of those who helped get Clayton a farmer's market!

This market has very unique items, we love the homemade charcoal, fresh mushrooms, bread, friuts and vegetables. The booths and activities directed toward children also help to make this a wonderful addition to our Saturday mornings.

I'm one of the members of the Market's Board and am very happy to hear that folks like it! If anyone knows of any produce vendors who are looking for a Saturday venue, please tell them to contact us because we're still looking for more produce vendors! Make sure to stop by on July 25th for our "Top Tomato" contest! Thanks!--Deborah

This is the first season for the Clayton Farm and Community Market, and I personally want to see it thrive. Our town has needed a market like this for a long time. I hope all the area residents agree and add their support.

The Clayton Farm and Community Market opened April 4th. I live downtown a few blocks from the market and came by a few times after the ribbon cutting ceremony. Seems that a few vendors were caught off guard by the numbers of customers and they sold out early in the day. A few more were cleaned out (or very nearly so) by 1pm. Customers who got there early and snagged up honey, baked goods, bedding plants and dried shiitakes (me, for one) were thrilled!

The second Saturday, April 11th, was a great market day as well. I volunteered to help out, so was there all day. There was a steady stream of customers all morning with bags in hand, ready to shop. A few were bummed we didn't have much in the way of ready-to-eat foods or produce yet, but the market is young (it will grow) and the produce is still growing out in the fields. Some should be in this coming week. :) We're all patiently waiting for juicy berries and fresh greens!!

Vendors brought more stuff this past week, but still, a few sold out again and all of them were very happy with the day. They all thought it would be a slow one compared to Opening Day and were pleasantly surprised. I'd advise you to get there early (by 10) if you are counting on walking away with local honey or berries or baked goods.

I am so happy this new market is in Clayton! I put in a beautiful garden from the veggie and herb plants I bought there (not done yet) and I've been crushing up dried shiitakes to cook with my rice, roasting garlic to have with dinner and eating honey on my breakfast bread every morning since April 4th. Can't wait to see the berries and produce that will be coming in soon!!
