The Wild Way Out was my introduction to CSA's during this past summer. Sadly I came away disappointed and will likely forgo CSA/s in the future based upon my experience. Produce was not of great quality - "watermelon" the size of my fist, overripe tomatoes, tough greens that were barely edible; quantity was lacking - what to do with one very small eggplant or a small handful of beans, etc. The weekly report was full of excuses - too much rain, too little rain, too much wind, not enough sun, etc. that I stopped reading them so as not to be so frustrated. I could easily have purchased Michigan produce this summer that was also organic and of better quality at the grocery store or at Eastern Market or in Royal Oak and spent far less money doing it. I began the season very excited about supporting a local farmer and enjoying a varied harvest each week but finished the season not even caring if I picked up my share each week.

I participated in Kate's CSA the year before last and was thrilled when I learned she was returning to the area. The produce I received was impeccable--perfectly fresh and picked at the peak of ripeness. I really enjoyed trying all the heirloom and unusual varieties that no one else at the market was offering. It's obvious Kate takes great pride in providing the absolute best possible produce. This CSA exceeded my expectaions, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the start of the season and the first of Kate's veggies!

As a member of this farm's CSA program for several years I can state without reservation they they uphold the highest standards in farming. I've never had fresher, better tasting produce and I love the various heirloom, as well as, wild varieties offered.
