They feature many great fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers along with several great places to dine, all reasonably priced. "Flower Day" is an annual event and a family tradition - great fun and bargains for all ages.

It has a wide variety of fresh produce from all over the State of Michigan and nearby Ontario. It is improving its facilities to serve the farmers and the customers better. Even more important, it is encouraging small and specialized farmers to bring their organic and local produce and home-baked and home-cooked goods to the market to create a new and exciting ambience. A great place to see people from all ethnic groups and all walks of life gather together to purchase fresh produce, plants and flowers in the market, fresh meats in Central Market, and specialized goods and spices in the many stores bordering the market sheds. I've enjoyed the market for more than 40 years! HBS

Eastern Market has the freshest fruits and vegetables of any market that I've visited. They have a wide variety of shops, food, flowers, and other items that can't be found anywhere else. The atmosphere is great with wonderful entertainment. I drive all the way from Flint just to visit the Detroit Eastern Market because I know that they have the best produce around.

After a trip there, you want to go home and cook a feast for the whole neighborhood! A true Detroit gem.

Eastern Market is a staple for Detroiters and Metro-Detroiters. Saturday mornings are best sprnt browsing for produce and talking to farmers about their homegrawn fair. What EM has the others don't is a sense of history- farmers and localvores have been participating in this tradition for decades. It's nice to support local farmers, independent businesses and history all at once.

One of the largest and oldest markets in the country, and certainly the largest in an urban setting, this market offers a huge variety of flowers, produce, meats, wines, arts and crafts, and lots of friendly people. It has recently been renovated (still ongoing) and is a treasure for the city of Detroit. I run into lots of friends there and always seem to meet someone new when shopping. I love buying from the farmers who have been doing this for a long time, it's great that they get my money directly. Buying local has never been so rewarding.

I support Eastern Market because it is located in
central Detroit, MI where there is a huge movement to
establish urban farms in the area surrounding Easter
Market. Eastern Market helps to provide food security
for the residents of metro Detroit.

Eastern Market has been around longer than I can remember. People come from all over the state of Michigan to buy and sell fresh food, including live chickens. When there were virtually no other farmer's markets to go to, Eastern Market was there for us. It has served generation upon generation. As children we would enjoy going there and now our grandchildren enjoy the market. It has now been completely renovated and it's a great way to spend a day (it takes that long to get through it). I've spoken to people who have visited Michigan as far away as Texas, and one of the places they visited that they most enjoyed was a trip to Eastern Market. It has become nationally known and deserves national recognition.
