As a restaurant owner, it is important that I have a place where I can find fresh foods and a source for ideas for new menu items. I found the bison meat at Pearl Farmers Market and it is now served at Earl Abel's. The vendors at the Pearl are very nice and helpful.

The market has seasonal/fresh produce and products, never disappointed. Plus the history of the location and it's significance to the community. Also the Riverwalk is right at the base and what's greater than to walk down the scenic river and take in the museum on a beautiful morning. Also the various events/demonistrations and participants.

I KNOW the market provides food from local producers. In fact, Pearl Farmers Market is a producers only market and the producers are local (w/in a 150 mi. radius of San Antonio). The variety is incredible and nothing has been brought to market before reaching perfection.

The Pearl Farmers Market is located in a culturally rich area of historical downtown San Antonio, but the age of the locale only contributes tradition; the area just received a fresh, contemporary facelift to give South Texas' finest producers a beautiful place to set up shop. True to Texas, the vendors are all 100% trust-worthy growers and artisans.

Pearl is doing a fantastic job of seeking out local farmers and producers who are really committed to organic/sustainable farming (unlike many other farmer's markets around this area that often feature resellers and non-organic produce). The quality at Pearl is fantastic and they offer a whole array of programming like cooking demos, music to keep the community involved. I love the Pearl Farmers Market!

Fresh food tastes better, has more nutritional value, and is lest costly than food shipped to supermarkets. Vendors at Pearl are local and produce exceptional products for reasonable prices. Each week new foods are available, and you never have to worry that food you buy will be flavorless due to being the wrong season or over processed! It is also the only place in San Antonio I have found to make grass fed meats available to the public!

Everything is local and fresh. When I first moved to San Antonio in 1974, there was a real farmer's market downtown at El Mercado; now that's just a fun tourist spot...there have been attempts at farmer's markets throughout the city through the years, but this is the best so far...and the one that's going to not just last, but get better and better!

I happened upon the Farmers Market on the day of the Grand Opening. I do agree that the vendors need to be spread out for the sake of the long lines, not being to walk around and was unable to see what most of the vendors had to offer. However, that is easy to cure. Farmers market vendors do not need to be just farmers. If you have something to sell that is home grown or home made then this is great place to bring it to the community. I thought that it was very impressive that the fruits, vegetables, shrimp, fish, and pastries were sold out before 11:00 a.m.

Pearl FM just started and, as a result, is still working out the glitches. The lack of pasture eggs and poultry is surprising. The grass-fed beef and local goat and lamb are wonderful. The baked goods, while not sold by a farmer, are made by local people and are pretty darned tasty.
The stalls are indeed too close together. I presume that the organizers know this and they're working on a solution - how could they miss the fact that people can't find room to wait in line!
I'll still have to find my pasture chicken and eggs from other sources. I wish there were more organics at the Pearl FM. And why is no one selling locally made cheese?
So Pearl FM is not perfect. But it's filling an obvious need in the center of town. If attendance remains high, more farmers will come. If the organizers do their job, they'll seek out more local folks who use organic practices.
I'm going to keep going, spending money, and looking for the improvements.

We were disappointed. The stands are too close together and most of them were selling food to eat rather than good fresh produce. We expected to buy produce but the lines were so long and wide that people were unable to get through to other stands. There were only a few local farmers who actually sold produce and people, unlike in foreign markets, were only buying a few items.
They need to spread out so people can see what is available and they need to get more farmers to participate. We left without ever getting to the stands.
