Local folks meet to sell and share their home grown produce, and other items of interest. Plants to grow. Suggestions on good gardening practices. A very wholesome atmosphere.

The Belen Farmers' Market is held in the heart of Belen at Anna Becker Park. Towering trees shade the venders and their customers. Most all of the venders know each other, and are very helpful and welcoming. The produce is colorful and gorgeous- organic and grown locally. Other products such as drought resistant plants and trees, honey bee products, and delicious baked goods are also sold. Pleasant jazz or folk music flows through the air, as friends and neighbors visit in beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Our Farmers' Market is simply the best place to be on Fridays from 4:30 to 7.

I elect Valencia Community Gardens group for promoting organic gardens throughout Valencia County and NM. Recently this group was reported in the Valencia News-Bulletin as having been selected by Governor Richardson's Community Initiatives to act as a pilot program for promoting organic gardens throughout NM. They were also invited by Tom Trujillo Director of Engage New Mexico to participate in the 2009 Conference on Aging. This group is in need of money in order to promote building community gardens by recruiting volunteers to grow food and other plants in an organic environment and to guide others to do the same. They have a NM non-profit status and are currently applying for federal non-profit status.

It is so wonderful to eat fresh, local produce when I can get it. I spend a lot of time searching it out in the off season. I wish our markets could be year round.

They have a wonderful variety of fresh fruits and vegs. and it a nice inviting place to visit. They also have roasted corn that is grown locally and make some of the vendors make their own bath and hand soaps. It a nice change from alot of the other farmers markets i have been to.

We need to support local people, local produce and goods. We are a rural farming area, it is good and necessary to spend and support the local community in every way possible.
