We used to be CSA members with Suzie's. But once they became more popular with chefs and more in demand, the boxes got less cost effective. And less interesting. I heard on the local news at some point, the farm folded. If this isn't true, I'd love to hear.

We were thinking about joining a CSA as a New Year's resolution, but thought we'd wait until "high season", late spring or summer. The wife carefully researches all before we make a lifestyle choice, and Dale struck paydirt! All that thought and effort concluded; why wait? February, 2010, we joined Suzie's Farm and it's out of this world. From other CSA boxes we 've seen or compared, Suzie's is the ultimate for price, quality, variety and volume; and we pick up our CSA box five minutes from home. Suzie's box costs less than our average Farmers Market trip; plus we were going to three markets a week minimum. Since than our grocery and market trips and expense have both dropped considerably while quality and variety shot into the stratosphere. They are the only CSA that includes various sprouts, shoots, etc. Bet you've never had the pleasure of Onion or Pea Sprouts! Suzie's Farm also has a farm stand, is at local Farmers Markets, serves some quality restaurants and some local chefs; but they stress their CSA's come first. We pick up our CSA box five minutes from home. The best experience is their farm tours on the first Saturday each month. Lucila, the "Head Weed Puller" led and lectured while walking backwards for about 90 minutes for us; and two other tours that day. The high point?, the tastings, plus we picked our own carrots, zuccini [with flowers!] and snap peas to take home. We plan to go every two months so we don't miss anything. The low point?, Folks, leave your kids home if you can't/won't control them, or bring a muzzle and leash.

For fruit and vegetable growers in San Diego, I won't say they are small. They are a beautiful, scenic spot of 50 acres + over three sites within a US Navy helicopter airfield buffer zone adjacent to the Tijuana river within Border Fields State Park. We highly recommend the Suzie's Farm website/ and newsletter for entertainment. You haven't lived until you've made "Kale Chips". Be careful, the're more addictive than potato chips. We rationalize, they're healthy!

Today's Fact: San Diego County CA has more individual farms than any other US county.

While I was out of funds by the time I reached Suzie's Farm stand, I was struck by the beautiful layout of her selection- baskets and bunches of fresh and lovely items, one could make a very nice salad with the huge array of sprouts. A friend and regular at the North Park Farmers' Market told me her things were wonderful, so I look forward to trying!
