We've been shopping the Allentown Farmers Market for over 15 years. Never had any bad purchases. Love everything , including Pa Dutch bakery, several ready to take home food booths, Dan's Chicken(Nix Besser) The peanut store, Minks candy, the NY Pickle shop, all the fresh produce and butcher stands, the fish market, bagel shop and on and on. Don't walk in if you haven't eaten for several hours! Lots and lots of free parking near any door, and did I mention all the food?? Or did I forget the wine shop, the vacuum cleaner shop, the potato chip store, the kiffle shop, the fresh flowers, well, by now you get the picture. And most of these vendors have been there for years so you know they sell quality products. If you've never been there , go there.

There's so much there - always! And everything is fresh and tasty, and there's such a wide cultural variety of foods. And, the atmosphere is excellent - and it can never get rained out!

Allentown Fairgrounds Market has the freshest, best tasting food - meats, fruits, vegetables. Not to mention the wide variety of Pennsylvania Dutch fare which is getting harder and harder to come by these days.

The market is open year-round and offers a wide variety of locally grown and made foods. Fresh fish, local fruits and vegetables, home-made baked goods...it's got it all!

The people are very knowledgeable about their produce. The produce is always fresh because the local farmers bring their veggies and fruits fresh from the farms, and gardens. They are very friendly, and always lend a hand helping you pick out your produce. It's an inside farmers market, so it's good to go rain or shine.

If it's local produce you're seeking then make sure you ask the stand attendant. Most of the farm stands claim they try to get local produce when possible. Look what they have to say at the Allentown Fairground's Farmer's Market website.

Everything from fresh sushi to warm bread to Pennsylvania Dutch specialties. To be honest I can't believe no one has reviewed this market yet. It is located on the historic fairgrounds, across from LVH hospital. It is open Thur, Fri and Saturday, has ample parking and a nice selection of vendors who return week after week.

The flea market/junk shop is kept to the far end of the market while the food and restaurants take up 90 percent of the rather large building. There is one rather steep slope inside the building that may be an issue for anyone with mobility issues. And the market can get EXTREMELY crowded, to the point of annoyance.

Prices are reasonable, however the vendors are rather firm on their prices until the last few hours of Saturday rolls around. The produce vendors offer a wide range of products, as do the several 'deli' vendors who offer everything from scrapple to cheesecake to jerk chicken to Greek salads. Due to the sheer volume of people in the market, most vendors are unable to give personal attention or talk shop, as it were, although many of the butchers are more than happy to share grilling secrets in regards to their meats.

All in all it is a very nice place to spend the day at, and the family restaurant next to the market (The Ritz) makes their own ice cream and also has reasonable prices. If you are in the mood to eat inside the market I would recommend Dan's Chicken (a deli style restaurant in the middle of the market, VERY popular) or if you are in a more adventurous mood, towards the grocery store and barber shop is Fan's Sushi and across from Fan's and the kitchen shoppe is a wonderful Greek vendor with many delicious Mediterranean treats.
