Early Saturday mornings in Franklin take you to the Curb Market where friends and family stroll the traffic island and chat with local farmers, vendors and artists. It is the perfect way to begin your weekend, buying great, fresh produce, baked goods, organic nuts, honeys and even handmade jewelry. It is the perfect example of small town life as it was and continues to be for all of us lucky to be in walking or biking distance of downtown and our favorite Saturday morning haunt.

Think global, eat local is my motto and the Franklin Curb Market makes that happen. At this time of year, before much produce is available, folks at curb market sell a lot of produce that's not really local, that is actually grown in Venango County, but I prefer to buy there because its so good to get out in such a beautiful outdoor place, to meet and greet my neighbors and vendors and to support the local economy.

Need produce that is fresh, tasty and, in most cases, cheaper than the local grocery store? Go to Franklin Curb Market. It's by the Venango County courthouse and fountain park. Beautiful setting, friendly vendors, nice place to spend a part of your morning.

My dad once sent me a big red tomato from Curb Market-- all the way to Texas. It arrived intact -- I served slices to Texas friends who had never tasted such a tomato! Another time we brought butter and sugar corn on the cob back to Texas in a U-Haul. Our car smelled like corn for a few weeks after that.
A trip to Franklin isn't complete without a visit to Curb Market! Can't wait til summer 2009!

We support all local food markets: buying food raised close to home helps farmers who grow it; provides fresh, local produce for consumers; and contributes to a decreased carbon footprint when produce is not trucked in. It is also a wonderful way to meet and greet those who live and work in your area.

I grew up in Franklin and in my younger years frequently accompanied my mother to the farmers market. She knew many of the vendors by name and I recall some wonderful conversations. My mother was an excellent cook; I imagine the fresh fruits and vegetables made the meals even better! I return to Franklin every five years without fail to celebrate a festival reunion with fellow members of the class of 1960. I always look forward to a casual stroll through the farmers market. I don't plan to cook anything, but of all my memories of Franklin, the farmers market is one of the very best. Look for me next year (2010) because I will surely be there.

I, too, grew up in Franklin 50 years ago. I well remember Saturday walks with my family to the Farmers' Market. In recent years, when visiting Franklin during the summer, I bring several pounds of my favorite ham loaf back to Colorado. The best I've every tasted!

I totally agree with Amy but wanted to get the name corrected. It wouldn't matter except that there is a Franklin 'Club' and the Curb market is further down Liberty Street on the island by the Court House.
The Curb Market has gotten better and better over the years with the addition of so many new people and items. The brown eggs are a specialty and so reasonably priced.
There is also an 'Open Aire Market' in the park next to the Curb Market. Look for more and more to happen on Wednesday and Saturday mornings in beautiful downtown Franklin.
