I took a tour today of one of the farms that bring their produce to the Atlanta Road Market - Bray Family Farms. It was amazing, and Nancy and Andy have an incredible family farm. We met their chickens, cows, goats, pigs, and dogs. It is very important to me to have food for myself and my family that is raised being treated kindly and in the best possible conditions. To keep from feeding by-products, antibiotics, and fillers, Andy goes to great length to make his own feed for his food animals. The chickens had a huge area to run free and eat bugs; they were very friendly, obviously very happy and even allowed Andy to pick them up. The cows all have names, are not afraid of people, and are being treated to the best possible life. I asked Andy why he did not sell his calves to feed lots like most farmers do today, and he said "I don't believe in it because it is a terrible life for the cow." On several occasions, Andy and Nancy told us stories of great compassion that they have shown to their animals. After looking at the beautiful vegetable gardens, we petted and fed their 4 young pigs watermelon! They loved it! Even the chickens had their watermelon. As we were leaving we stopped by for a few tasty concord grapes. It was a wonderful adventure! I hope you will support Andy and his family by buying his foods AND support him for raising his foods in such a healthy and compassionate way.
